Avnet Electronics Marketing (EM) Americas, a division of Avnet Inc. (AVT - Analyst Report) recently collaborated with NXP and introduced Speedway Design Workshop, USB Made Easy.

Based on NXP’s Cortex-M USB portfolio, USB Made Easy will assist designers in developing USB applications. These Speedway trainings are offered in numerous cities across the United States and will commence in July.

With hands-on labs as an important attribute, Avnet’s team of field application engineers will impart training, enabling rapid and reliable development of USB connected products, which will address upcoming demand.

Earlier, Avnet EM Americas division entered into a distribution agreement with Nextreme Thermal Solutions, a manufacturer of micro-scale thermal and power management products.

Avnet will distribute Nextreme’s energy harvesting products, which have strong demand in the consumer and industrial end-markets. Moreover, Nextreme’s alternative energy source fits in well with the company’s wireless connectivity solutions.

With the combination of wireless transmitters and Thermobility (Nextreme’s wireless power generator), electric power can be provided free of maintenance for decades.

The Electronics Marketing Group distributes semiconductors and Interconnect, passive and electromechanical devices, in addition to offering supply chain management, inventory replenishment systems and non-complex engineering design services.

Electronics Marketing generated revenues of $3.93 billion in the third quarter of fiscal 2011, up 36.0% year over year. During the quarter, demand for electronic components was solid and seasonal trends were better than expectations.

For the fourth quarter of fiscal, the company projects EM sales to be in the range of $3.85 billion - $4.25 billion. Management stated that it is difficult to evaluate the impact of the earthquake in Japan on Avnet’s business. Thus, the company has widened its June quarter sales guidance range for EM.

Avnet is one of the world’s largest distributors of electronic components and computer products. The company directly competes with Arrow Electronics Inc. (ARW - Analyst Report).
