At the most basic level, information is acquired in three ways: osmosis, push, and pull.

Osmosis media, is that which you assimilate by being there. As Woody Allen said, “Eighty percent of success is showing up.”

Push media is controlled by whoever is doing the pushing. School is a push technology. Broadcast TV, as well. You may choose which channel you pay attention to, but they’re still streaming the content to you.

Pull media places you where you ought to be, in control. You can get the information that you want.

Google News is the most easily available form of pull media that I know.

With a Google ([url=http://www.zacks.com/stock/quote/goog]GOOG[/url]) account, you can personalize your news, to ALERT you to possible investment opportunities!

Some of my favorite alerts are:

“CFO sells”

“CEO sells”

“CFO buys”

“CEO buys”

I also like to keep track of any news or comments by various successful investors, however, this is a little more tricky.

If I put in only “Jim Rogers,” or “Warren Buffett” invariably, I get a lot of unwanted content. So to delete these, I try to pick out a unique word in the unwanted article an put a minus sign (-) in front of it. The minus sign in front of a word will omit that article from your news search.

So in reality, my search for “Jim Rogers” looks like this:

"jim rogers", investing, -duke, -chancellor, -nebraska, -orford, -vegas, -food, -army, -redstone, -eastman, -cyclist

My search for “Warren Buffett” looks like this:

"warren buffett" -taxes -cartoon –chain

Homework assignment, what phrases do you want to use to uncover investment opportunities?
