Arotech Corporation (ARTX - Analyst Report), a provider of defense and security products, reported that its Battery and Power Systems Division received its first ever order, of over 350 systems, for its new SWIPES (Soldier Worn Integrated Power Equipment System) battery program.

The order will service the U.S. Army REF (Rapid Equipping Force) and PEO Soldier, PM Soldier Warrior.

REF provides specialized and specific capabilities to Army units positioned globally while PEO Soldier, PM Soldier Warrior, Product Director Soldier Power encompasses expeditionary power solutions intended for severe operating environments.

Arotech's Battery and Power Systems Division develops and produces high power zinc-air batteries as well as high-end primary and secondary batteries and associated chargers.  The Division is also a leading provider of primary and rechargeable batteries and chargers for defense and other military applications.

Arotech’s SWIPES battery program utilizes the MOLLE vest (MOdular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment), integrating electronics and communications equipment with an advanced battery power source.

The system utilizes a power distribution system that is powered by rechargeable batteries allowing for extended mission times and as much as a 30% reduction in battery weight.

Additionally, the SWIPES product continuously charges secondary batteries inside various devices such as two radios, GPS units and shot detection systems.

It should be noted that in November 2011, the Company reported that it anticipates that starting in 2012 its SWIPES program will be a multimillion dollar annual revenue business for Arotech.

Additionally, the Company stated that other new applications in the Company’s Battery Division such as submersibles, UAVs and Tank Starters have begun to gain traction.
