Polycom Inc. ( PLCM - Analyst Report ) – the market leader in open standard based unified communications (UC) affirmed that it is collaborating with the research division of IBM Corporation ( IBM - Analyst Report ) – to explore and develop new cloud-based video technologies that will run on its RealPresence platform. The tie up will help Polycom as enterprises are constantly demanding cloud-based video conferencing services.
This new initiative from IBM intends to work to develop a RealPresence solution that provides the highest level of security and reliability while at the same time delivering highest productivity. The new partnership will lay more emphasis on video-enabled mobile social collaboration.
Polycom’s RealPresence is a state-of-the-art unified communications technology that integrates video conferencing and instant messaging while enabling data transfer from one communications platform to a different platform. Recently, the Pleasanton, CA-based Polycom declared its second-quarter 2012 financial results with revenue in line with Zacks Consensus Estimate and EPS missing the same.
Recently, Polycom has entered into a strategic partnership with IBM to incorporate its popular RealPresence video solutions technology with IBM’s interactive application called IBM Sametime and IBM Connections.
We believe the collaboration with IBM will help Polycom create a video conferencing solution based on the cloud platform that aids businesses to enhance productivity thereby creating new opportunities across various industries for the company.
The current Zacks Consensus Estimate for Polycom Inc. is pegged at a loss of 1 cent for the third quarter of 2012 with a growth rate estimate of (108.33%). For 2012, the Zacks Consensus Estimate stands at 30 cents with a growth rate of (65.29%) while for 2013, the Zacks Consensus Estimate stands at 40 cents with a growth rate of 34.92%.
Recommendation:
We retain our long-term Neutral recommendation on Polycom Inc. Currently, it has a Zacks #3 Rank, implying a short-term Hold rating.
