BMC Software (BMC - Analyst Report) has been winning a number of deals recently and has now added modern furniture company Design Within Reach to its client list. The BMC Remedyforce Service Desk solution will help the furniture retailer to replace its hardware and IT assets with other efficient cloud infrastructure.

The separation of its IT personnel in pursuance of a corporate relocation led Design Within Reach to select a cloud-based system that would minimize down time, reduce reliance on hardware and facilitate change management.

Remedyforce is fully loaded with the change management functionalities and enhanced approval process.

In addition to the shift from hardware based help desk functions to a cloud solution, BMC will also offer flexibility to interact without the virtual private network (VPN).

We believe that this particular product from BMC will find many takers, as it makes life easier for retailers and merchandisers. BMC has been enjoying a steady flow of deals and is also witnessing steady growth in its SaaS-based business. Cloud bookings have also improved.

On the other hand, significant Fed budget cuts have had an impact on government funds for IT administration. This apart, the economic weakness in Europe is also affecting business.

Although most of the company’s business segments witnessed growth and decent cash flow, BMC still faces headwinds related to the bleak business conditions in Europe. Moreover, increasing competition from big players such as IBM Corp. (IBM - Analyst Report), Hewlett-Packard Company (HPQ - Analyst Report), EMC Corp. (EMC - Analyst Report) and CA Technologies (CA - Analyst Report) will pose challenges for the company.

BMC carries a Zacks #3 Rank, implying a short-term Hold rating.
