Novatel Wireless Introduces MiFi 2

Recently, Novatel Wireless Inc. ( NVTL - Analyst Report ) introduced its next-generation intelligent mobile hotspot - the MiFi 2, which is developed by using the company’s wireless patents. MiFi is an ultra-portable wireless device, creating an environment of high-speed Internet connectivity that can be easily shared between multiple users and Wi-Fi devices. The innovative MiFi 2 is the first touchscreen intelligent mobile hotspot available in the market.

Earlier, Novatel introduced its first 4G MiFi mobile intelligent hotspots with Verizon Wireless, a joint venture between Verizon Communications Inc. ( VZ - Analyst Report ) and Vodafone Group plc. ( VOD - Analyst Report ) . MiFi 4510L provides backward compatibility with Verizon’s 3G networks. At present, Novatel is the only company, which can offer a full suite of LTE products across all forms of wireless data access medium, viz., MiFi Intelligent mobile hotspots, Ovation USB modems and Expedite embedded modules.

Novatel’s future growth prospects look quite attractive as the company plans to expand its new customer base coupled with the launch of new MiFi products for major telecom operators. Moreover, higher proliferation of 4G-based devices and the expected launch of Microsoft Corp. ( MSFT - Analyst Report ) developed Windows 8-based devices will further create huge opportunity for the company going forward.

Comcast Corp. ( CMCSA - Analyst Report ) , the largest cable TV operator in the U.S., is also using MiFi Intelligent Mobile Hotspot of Novatel for its nationwide rollout of the TV Everywhere service called “Xfinity Internet 2go”. Novatel is commercializing its own content delivery portal supported by the MiFi platform. By vending mobile content the company plans to generate recurring revenue.
