Itron, Inc. ( ITRI - Analyst Report ) declared that Aguas de Valencia, a private water utility, will start full deployment of Itron’s AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure) solution to modernize the water metering infrastructure. The technology will be installed over the next five years.

Itron’s AMI solution includes 100,000 water meters, 100,000 communication modules, fixed network infrastructure and software. The technology is easily manageable, extremely efficient and requires minimal maintenance.

Aguas de Valencia will be able to deliver more value to its customers through the expansion of the facility. Itron’s AMI solution will facilitate the collection of detailed water data and its utilization. It will also manage the delivery and usage of water more effectively.

Aguas de Valencia has previously employed AMI solution to analyze its operations comprising water conservation, customer relationship management and distribution asset optimization. AMI helped it to update the metering infrastructure and integration of distribution system.

The private water distributor thus decided on full implementation based on the successful completion of a 5,000-endpoint pilot of Itron’s AMI solution.

Itron, which belongs to the electrical equipment industry along with Agilent Technologies Inc. ( A - Analyst Report ) , National Instruments Corp ( NATI - Snapshot Report ) and Teradyne Inc. ( TER - Analyst Report ) , recently announced the expansion of its analytic capabilities in North America with Itron Water Analytics. This expansion program includes water utility specific analytics that turns smart metering and other operational data into actionable intelligence.

Liberty Lake, Washington-based Itron produces electricity, gas, water and heat meters, data collection and utility software solutions along with various other associated metering products for residential, commercial and industrial, and transmission and distribution customers.
