Electronic Arts' (EA - Analyst Report) PopCap Games has released the iOS version of its free-to-play word puzzle game named Bookworm Heroes. The game is currently available for download from Apple’s (AAPL - Analyst Report) App store, iTunes.

Bookworm Heroes can also be played on Facebook (FB - Analyst Report) with both single player and multi-player options. Despite being a free-to-play game, players can reportedly purchase in-game items to add special features to the gameplay.

The previous versions of the game have proved to be immensely successful for PopCap and received rave reviews based on its simplicity and innovative gameplay. The other offering such as Bookworm Adventures Deluxe, Bookworm Adventures: Volume 2 and Bookworm have garnered rave review from metacritic for different platforms such as PC and Nintendo’s DS platforms.

Now with an additional platform and the increase in consumer preferences to play casual and social games through mobile devices will likely prove to be a catalyst for the game going forward.

The addition of PopCap Games has expanded EA’s reach in the mobile and social gaming segment. Apart from Bookworm, PopCap Games boasts other popular titles such as Bejeweled, Plants vs Zombies and Zuma and are being played on different platforms.

Additionally, we believe that EA’s high-quality titles and a robust product pipeline along with increasing online exposure and traction in the social and mobile gaming market will boost its top-line growth over the long term.

However, we remain cautious on EA due to sluggish consumer spending on packaged video games, dismal video game sales and increasing competition from Activision (ATVI - Snapshot Report).

Currently, EA has a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).
