City of Olympia Choses Itron's AMI Solution

Itron, Inc. ( ITRI - Analyst Report ) declared that the City of Olympia has selected its advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) solution to improve customer service through the efficient management of water resources.

The City of Olympia delivers high-quality drinking water in a 26-square-mile service area, which also includes the urban growth area. The City, therefore, has been looking for a more efficient approach to meter data collection. Moreover, it also needed a hybrid approach that will deploy both fixed network and mobile data collection systems.

Itron’s flexible AMI solution will increase operational efficiency of the City and encourage water conservation by installing more than 19,500 water communication modules with a fixed network for the majority of the utility’s service area and a mobile collection system for the remaining service area.

The City will also utilize Itron’s data collection software and network software solutions, which will give it the access to more water usage data. It will also help in identifying problems, improving water conservation programs and educating customers about their water use.

Itron, which belongs to the electrical equipment industry along with Agilent Technologies Inc. ( A - Analyst Report ) , National Instruments Corporation ( NATI - Snapshot Report ) and Teradyne Inc. ( TER - Analyst Report ) , recently declared that Aguas de Valencia, a private water utility, will start the full deployment of the AMI solution to modernize the water metering infrastructure. It will also manage the delivery and usage of water more effectively.

Liberty Lake, Wash.-based Itron produces electricity, gas, water, and heat meters, data collection and utility software solutions along with various other associated metering products for residential, commercial and industrial, and transmission and distribution customers.
