Kimberly-Clark Professional, one of the segments of Kimberly-Clark Corp. (KMB - Analyst Report) has introduced a sanitizing spray named Scott 24 Hour Sanitizing Spray that kills 99.9% bacteria for 24 hours. The spray is effective in eliminating viruses of cold and flu, even after regular contact with the surface. The spray can be used at offices, schools, hotels, supermarkets, airports, industrial facilities, gyms and locker rooms, cruise ships and day care centers.
The launch of this new spray is part of The Healthy Workplace Project and two programs designed by Kimberly-Clark Professional to help companies provide hand and surface hygiene and prevent the spread of cold, flu and other germs.
In first quarter 2013, sales of the Kimberly-Clark Professional segment declined 1% to $0.8 billion due to reduced sales volumes and unfavorable currency rates offsetting the combined impact of higher net selling prices and changes in product mix.
However, total sales in the first quarter climbed 1% from the prior-year quarter. Targeted growth initiatives and product innovations helped sales and volume growth in the quarter. Currency fluctuations reduced sales by 1% and the exit of the diaper segment of Western and Central Europe and lost sales in conjunction with pulp and tissue restructuring actions also eroded company sales by 1% in the quarter.
Kimberly-Clark reported adjusted earnings of $1.48 per share, which breezed past the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 10.4% and the year-ago result by 19.4%. Earnings were boosted by organic sales growth, cost savings and improved other income, which made up for increased input and marketing/research costs and higher tax rates.
We believe that the introduction of this product will not only benefit the segment but will also keep people healthier, safer and more productive. Kimberly-Clark holds a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).
