Read MoreHide Full Article

On Thursday night, horrifying news came out of an attack in Nice, France. An individual drove a truck through a crowd, killing over 80 people and severely injuring dozens more. The market, as well as people around the world reacted in tandem to the attack. As per the gruesome trend, travel stocks were among the most impacted by the news.

Let’s take a look at the travel stocks that are down so far on Friday:

Delta Airlines (DAL - Free Report)

Delta Airlines is down 2.1% in mid-morning trading. The Atlanta, GA based airliner has the most exposure to France of any U.S. airliner, and are certainly feeling the aftereffects of France’s third large terror attack in the last 18 months.

Delta Airlines currently sits at a Zacks Rank #5 (Strong Sell).

United Continental Airlines (UAL - Free Report)

United Airlines is down 0.3% in mid-morning trading. Based in Chicago, IL, UAL also offers many flights to France, but is not as heavily exposed as Delta is. This could be a reason why it is not down as much as its fellow rival.

United Airlines currently sits at a Zacks Rank #5 (Strong Sell).

Priceline Group

Priceline Group is down 1.5% in mid-morning trading. Based in Norwalk, CT, PCLN offers booking services on travel related services such as hotels, flights, and rental cars. Because it is a booking service, it has exposure everywhere, and is also subject to the aftershocks of France.

Priceline currently sits at a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).

Carnival Corp. (CCL - Free Report)

Carnival Corp. is down 2.1% in mid-morning trading. Based in Miami, FL, CCL offers cruises to multiple locations, with Europe also serving as a popular destination.

Carnival currently sits at a Zacks Rank #4 (Sell).

Norwegian Cruise Line (NCLH - Free Report)

Norwegian Cruise Line is down 3.5% in mid-morning trading. Based in Miami, FL, NCLH, like Carnival, has an expansive itinerary that ranges from New England to North Africa. NCLH also has exposure to Europe.

Norwegian Cruise Line currently sits at a Zacks Rank #4 (Sell).

Royal Caribbean Cruises (RCL - Free Report)

Royal Caribbean Cruises is down 2.2% in mid-morning trading. Also based in Miami, FL, RCL offers service in and around the Caribbean, Mediterranean, as well as Europe, amongst others.

Royal Caribbean Cruises currently sits at a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).

Events such as the one that occurred in Nice, France, are noted to generally have the type of effect that we’ve noted here on travel companies that are exposed to the region in question. Although today stocks are trading down, the market generally recovers comparatively quickly.
