Key Travel Stock Earnings to Watch: PCLN, FUN, RCL, TRIP
Read MoreHide Full Article
This video takes a closer look at the top travel stocks reporting this earnings season. It could be a very interesting time for all of these companies thanks to growing risks from Zika and terrorism, both of which could keep people away from the travel market in general. In particular though, we take a look at the following companies:
Royal Caribbean (RCL - Free Report) has seen some stormy seas as of late thanks to terrorism worries and a general lack of travel interest in some of its key markets. This has pushed shares sharply lower this year despite a string of earnings beats. Estimates really haven’t come down despite the weakness though, so RCL could beat, but the guidance will be the main issue for this company.
Cedar Fair (FUN - Free Report) is a theme park operator, running some of the country’s top amusement parks including their flagship property Cedar Point. The company has a mixed track record when it comes to beating earnings estimates, but shares have managed to march higher nonetheless. It doesn’t hurt that the company has a strong dividend and is more immune than most of its counterparts on this list from terrorism and Zika worries thanks to its domestic focus.
An often overlooked name in the travel space is TripAdvisor (TRIP - Free Report) which also reports this week, going on 8/3 after the bell. The company currently sees a positive earnings ESP, but its Zacks Rank #4 (sell) and an ‘F’ Grade for fundamentals don’t give investors too much of a reason to be optimistic heading into the release. And in the chart below, note the steady decline in earnings estimate expectations which have been hitting shares of TRIP for quite some time now:
Priceline will also be one to watch this week, as the company reports after the bell on 8/4. This will follow up a sluggish report from Expedia (EXPE - Free Report) last week, and earnings estimates have been falling ahead of the PCLN report. Still, PCLN has a great track record when it comes to beating expectations and it is hard to bet against them now, even with the headwinds.
