T-Mobile US (TMUS) Launches Unlimited Data Plan at $70

T-Mobile US Inc. (TMUS - Free Report) reported a solid second-quarter 2016, where it added 1.881 million subscribers, indicative of the fact that this the company’s 13th successive quarter of over one million net customer additions. Additionally, the wireless carrier has come to the forefront when the popular OpenSignal’s “State of the Mobile Network” report ranked T-Mobile US as the nations’ second best network in terms of 4G LTE network availability behind its rival Verizon Communications Inc. (VZ - Free Report) . It also witnessed a record low churn rate of 1.27% in the reported quarter. However, T-Mobile US, now the fastest growing wireless carrier in the U.S. is not sitting back on its laurels and instead eyeing further customer gains. The latest addition to this strategy of expansion being the ‘Unlimited Data Plans’.

Plan Details

As per the latest initiative, T-Mobile US will do away with all its existing data plans and instead replace it with ‘T-Mobile One’ plan which is supposed to give its customers endless pool of LTE data without any restrictions. The plan will start from $70 and will offer unlimited text messaging along with voice calling as well as free roaming in selected countries. The plan is expected to be active from Sep 6.

T-Mobile US has stated that they will throttle the internet speed once a subscriber has used up 26 GB of data. Furthermore, all the video steaming will be limited to standard definition, which is considered inferior in today’s standards. Additionally there will be limit of using the connection as a hotspot.

With many high end smartphones, particularly the iPhone 7 from Apple Inc. is lined up for launch in the coming days, we anticipate wireless carriers to initiate aggressive promotional campaigns to lure customers. Moreover, as the demand for online streaming services pick up, these wireless carriers will unveil attractive data plans to expand their customer base. Sprint Corporation (S - Free Report) too has launched an array of unlimited data plans as a response to T-Mobile US’ offer. Notably, AT&T Inc. (T - Free Report) too erased its data caps from all its plans this week.
