Nasdaq, Inc. (NDAQ - Free Report) reported improved trading volumes for Nov 2016, which are segregated under equity derivatives, cash equities, and fixed income and commodities. We believe the enhanced volume reflect a rise in trading activities subsequent to the U.S. election. Following this announcement, the company’s shares gained nearly 4.2%.

This major exchange operator’s U.S. equity options volume surged 65.3% year over year and 20.6% from the prior month to 129 million contracts in November. The company’s European options and futures volume was 7.2 million contracts, down 4% year over year, but rose 2.9% from Oct 2016.

Under its cash equities, Nasdaq’s U.S. matched equity volume in the reported month totaled 28.9 billion shares, an increase of 18.4% from Nov 2015 and 28.5% from Oct 2016 level. Further, European equity volume grew 5.8% from the prior-year month and 10.6% from the prior month to $73 billion.

Moreover, US Fixed income volume in November jumped 47% year over year and 34.3% from the last month to $2.3 billion. Further, European fixed-income volume was 1.9 million contracts for Nov 2016, down 9.5% from Nov 2015 but increasing 5.5% from Oct 2016. In addition, European energy clearing and trading totaled 280 Terawatt hours, up from 209 Terawatt hours in Nov 2015 and 277 Terawatt hours in Oct 2016.

We expect this improved trading performance to continue, going forward. This enhanced volume is likely lead to strong revenue growth for Nasdaq.

Year to date, Nasdaq’s shares have gained 16.2%, underperforming the 22.6% growth for the Zacks categorized Securities Exchanges industry. Nonetheless, the stock has been largely witnessing a rising trend, post U.S. election.

Currently, Nasdaq carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).
