What is the Outlook for Gold Prices in 2017?

Read MoreHide Full Article

Since the election of Donald Trump, gold ETFs like (SGOL - Free Report) , (GLD - Free Report) , or (IAU - Free Report) have been in a bit of a slump. This trend has been a bit of a surprise to many, and it has taken what was a solid year for this key precious metal and put it basically back to underperformance relative to the S&P 500. But what is the cause of this downturn and should commodity investors be worried that these recent trends will continue in 2017 too?

For some insights on what happened to close out the year in the world of precious metals and what is next, I talked with an expert in the field for some perspective on this edition of the Dutram Report. For this podcast, we have Maxwell Gold, the Director of Investment Strategy for ETF Securities, on with us to discuss this key market segment and what investors should expect from gold in the New Year.

In particular, we discuss the impact of the Trump election, how changes in Indian policy could be impacting gold, and the Federal Reserve as well. Plus, with the Fed just raising rates, this talk with Maxwell should be especially important for investors as the Fed sets its sights on 2017 and its interest rate policy ahead.

Part of the discussion also centers on what is in store for gold once Trump takes office, and specifically the impact of some of his inflationary policies—such as a boost in infrastructure spending-- and how this might impact the world of gold. I also talk to Maxwell regarding the overall outlook for the precious metal market, and where the rest of the space stands heading into January.

In terms of alternatives to gold, we converse about what might be in store for investments like gold miners (GDX - Free Report) as well as silver (SIVR - Free Report) too. Max and I also discuss the often-overlooked metals of platinum (PPLT - Free Report) and palladium (PALL - Free Report) and which of these is likely to be a better choice in 2017.

This was certainly an informative podcast, and a must-listen for investors getting prepared for the commodity market in 2017, so make sure to listen to this edition of the Dutram Report for a guide to this in-focus market segment.
