Boeing's 737 MAX 9 Jetliner Raises Eyebrows, Travels 3,515 Miles Nonstop

Chicago-based Boeing (BA - Free Report) released its newest jetliner, the Boeing 737 MAX 9. The MAX 9 jet was rolled out Tuesday at Boeing’s Renton final assembly plant. If the MAX 9 is launched, it will fully enter service in 2020.

With over 3,600 orders already placed in the MAX family, Boeing says that the MAX 9, compared to its younger sibling, the MAX 8, has been designed for better fuel efficiency and decreased costs. The new jet can carry 220 passengers and fly 3,515 miles nonstop, making it available for a flight from New York to London.

The 737 series is most used for short to medium duration flights and competes with Airbus’ (EADSY - Free Report) A321neo. Airbus has the upper hand in this class of jet performance as their A321neo seats more passengers and flies a farther distance than the MAX 9. With the 3,600 MAX jets ordered, only 220 have been the MAX 9, which has kept industry leaders doubtful.
