How Great is the S8?

Samsung’s Galaxy S8 promises to be a bigger, sleeker, more modern phone that should establish itself as a leader in the smartphone market right at its debut. The phone will be released in the United States on April 21.

The Galaxy S8 display is 5.8 inches, while the S8+ is 6.2 inches. This makes it just a bit bigger than the Apple's (AAPL - Free Report) iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, which come in at 4.7 inches and 5.5 inches, respectively.

The S8 features Samsung’s new Bixpy personal assistant technology, which joins the growing list of phone-based personal helpers. Bixpy is unique in its ability to use the phone’s camera to recognize displayed items and link to related things on the web.

This release is huge for Samsung as the company attempts to recover from its recent string of public relations headaches. The problems started last fall when Samsung had to discontinue its Galaxy Note 7 device after it was found to spontaneously combust. This nightmare was prolonged by the recent arrest and trial of the acting chief of Samsung Group.

In short, Samsung needs a win right now, and if the Galaxy S8 works how it should out of the box, it will be a big winner.
