How the Echo Look is Boosting Amazon's Retail Identity

On today’s episode of Shopping for Stocks, Editor Maddy Johnson takes a look at Amazon’s (AMZN - Free Report) latest encroaching step in the retail industry: the Echo Look.

On the heels of the e-commerce giant’s strong first-quarter performance, where both its top and bottom line soared past estimates, Amazon unveiled a new Alexa-powered smart-home camera that acts as your personal style assistant.

The Echo Look can take photos and videos of you in your favorite outfit, allowing you to see the good, the bad, and the ugly. These photos can then be compiled into a sort of lookbook on Amazon’s app so you can easily flip through them on a screen.

Equipped with a feature dubbed “Style Check,” Echo Look uses advanced machine learning algorithms and advice from fashion specialists to help you pick between different outfits.

While Amazon will likely use the device to boost its in-house fashion brands, the Echo Look is a way to help sway those on-the-fence consumers who still don’t envision the company as a fashion destination.
