Why Is Liberty Interactive (QVCA) Down 1.5% Since the Last Earnings Report?

A month has gone by since the last earnings report for Liberty Interactive Corporation . Shares have lost about 1.5% in that time frame, underperforming the market.

Liberty Interactive Tops Q1 Earnings and Revenues

Liberty Interactive's quarterly GAAP net income came in at $91 million or $0.37 per share compared with $63 million or $0.36 per share in the prior-year quarter. Quarterly earnings per share of $0.37 were well above the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $0.33.

Meanwhile, the quarter’s total revenue of $2,323 million reflected a year-over-year decrease of 1.9% while surpassing the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $2,317 million.

In the first quarter of 2017, Liberty Interactive generated $426 million of cash from operations compared with $294 million in the prior-year quarter. Free cash flow in the reported quarter was $396 million compared with $243 million in the year-ago quarter.

At the end of the first quarter of 2017, Liberty Interactive had total cash and marketable securities of $821 million compared with $825 million at the end of 2016. The company exited first-quarter 2017 with $7,930 million of outstanding debt compared with $8,042 million at the end of 2016. The debt-to-capitalization ratio at the end of the reported quarter was 0.99 compared with 0.51 at 2016-end.

QVC Segment

Quarterly revenues at the QVC division were down 2% year over year to $1,965 million. Revenues from the QVC U.S. segment were $1,370 million, down 3% year over year. Revenues from the QVC International segment were $595 million, down 2% year over year. QVC U.S. OIBDA was $336 million, up 3% year over year while QVC International OIBDA was $98 million, up 10% year over year. 

zulily Segment

Quarterly revenues at the zulily segment totaled $359 million, up 1% year over year. Quarterly adjusted OIBDA was $15 million, down a substantial 35%. Meanwhile, operating loss was $38 million in the reported quarter compared with an operating loss of $43 million in the prior-year quarter.
