10 Things You Need to Know About Amazon Prime Day

Read MoreHide Full Article

On July 11th, Amazon.com (AMZN - Free Report) will have its 3rd annual Amazon Prime Day, an event similar to Cyber Monday or Black Friday.

Started in 2015, Amazon Prime Day offers special deals in the middle of the summer. Amazon Prime Day 2016 led to the company’s biggest day ever. Amazon reported that last year, “customer orders surpassed Prime Day 2015 by more than 60% worldwide and more than 50% in the U.S.”

This year’s sale will be no different, with hundreds of thousands of deals available all over the world. Greg Greeley, the Vice President of Amazon, said the goal is to offer deals to “a record number of shoppers.”

Less than two weeks away, Amazon has announced some key details about the event. Here are the most important things you need to know to make the most out of Amazon Prime Day 2017:

1: It’s Only Open to Prime Members.

Amazon Prime Day is only open to members of the Prime membership program, which is $99-a-year (or $10.99 a month). Amazon does offer a free 30-day trial of Prime that would allow a new member to take advantage of the special deals in addition to the free two-day shipping. You can also try out the other special features, like Amazon’s video streaming service.

2: It’s Longer than a Day.

While the official Prime Day is July 11th, the event will last for 30 jam-packed hours. It starts at 9 p.m. Eastern time on July 10th and lasts until 3 a.m. on July 12th.

3: The Deals Will Be Released Beforehand.

Deals offered will be released on July 9th at 9 p.m. Eastern time, or 24 hours before they go live. That’ll allow Prime members to see what’s on sale and to make a plan beforehand. If there’s a product you want that isn’t on sale, there’ll be time to explore if other brands offer a similar item with a special discount.

4: It’s Not Just Happening in the U.S.

This year, a total of 13 countries will be included in Amazon Prime Day. Besides the United States, Amazon’s home market, consumers in the United Kingdom, Spain, Mexico, Japan, Italy, India, Germany, France, China, Canada, Belgium, and Austria can be a part of the action.

5: Take Advantage of Amazon Prime Reload.

Amazon Prime members get a 2 percent bonus when reloading their gift card balance from their bank accounts. If you’re planning on buying an expensive item, you may want to take advantage of this offer. Load the amount of money you’ll need onto your gift card and then you can use your 2 percent bonus on Amazon Prime Day.

6: The 1-Click Purchase Option Will Help You Keep Up With the Competition.

1-Click ordering lets Prime members shorten the buying process. When this feature is turned on, a customer can click the buy button once and the item is automatically charged and shipped based on the payment method and address in their Amazon account. This will be extremely useful during Prime Day to make sure a product is ordered before stock runs out.

7: Don’t Forget About the Lightning Deals.

Amazon offers a variety of good deals throughout the event, but occasionally a lightning deal will occur. These special sales will be live for only a little while and can come as fast as every five minutes, so make sure to keep your eyes open for them.

8: There are Special Deals with Alexa.

If you own an Amazon device in your home, make sure to use it for the event. “Members with an Alexa-enabled device such as the Amazon Echo or Echo Dot will have access to exclusive Prime Day voice shopping deals,” said the company. This continues the Alexa-exclusive offers that were made available in 2016.

9: If You Really Want It, Order It.

A multitude of shoppers will be taking part of Amazon Prime Day this year, so if there’s an item you really want, order it before the sale ends or stock runs out. All items are on a first-come, first-served basis. But if stock does run out, Amazon does offer a wait list that allows customers to wait in line in case someone cancels their order or more products become available.

10: Pre-Prime Day Sales Are Already Available.

Can’t wait for the action to begin? Amazon has already begun pre-Prime Day sale offers. Prime members can now receive 40% off of a Kindle Unlimited membership, which gives access to more than a million book titles. The company is also offering a discount to its music streaming service. Members can receive a four-month membership for 99 cents.
