Gold and Dow Jones: 2 ETFs to Watch on Outsized Volume

Read MoreHide Full Article

In the last trading session, U.S. stocks were in the green on a dovish Fed outlook and a retail sector rally. Among the top ETFs, investors saw (SPY - Free Report) gain about 0.2%, (DIA - Free Report) add about 0.1% and (QQQ - Free Report) move higher by over 0.2% on the day.

Two more specialized ETFs are also worth watching as both saw trading volume that was far outside of normal. In fact, both these funds experienced volume levels that were more than double their average for the most of the last trading session. This could make these ETFs ones to watch out for in the days ahead to see if this trend of extra-interest continues:

(SGOL - Free Report) : Volume 6.63 times average

This gold bullion ETF was in the spotlight yesterday as nearly 217,000 shares moved hands compared with an average of roughly 32,700 shares a day. We also saw some price movement as SGOL lost about 0.2% in the last session. The move was largely the result of a rise in U.S. Treasury yields which curbed demand for non-interest bearing assets like gold. SGOL was down about 3.3% in the last one month.

(IYY - Free Report) : Volume 3.74 times average

This Dow Jones ETF was under the microscope yesterday as about 78,600 shares changed hands. This compares to an average trading volume of around 21,000 shares and came as IYY gained about 0.2% in the session.

The movement can largely be credited to the recent record highs of the Dow Jones index. IYY has gained about 0.1% in the last one month.
