On Monday, Facebook shares witnessed one of their worst days in years in the wake of reports related to Cambridge Analytica. The company is known for working with President Trump’s campaign during the 2016 elections and receiving funding from conservative billionaire Robert Mercer, but the latest headlines about the firm point to a potentially troubling story.

Stories published by The Observer and The New York Timesover the weekend suggested that Cambridge Analytica violated Facebook’s terms of service and had inappropriate access to user data and personal information.

The reports added to concerns that Facebook and its current business model are susceptible to false information and malicious advertising, with many users fitting the Cambridge Analytica story into a larger picture that includes Russia’s social media propaganda campaign during the election cycle.

This conversation has plenty of political and social undertones and touches on philosophical arguments about corporate responsibility and how we use social media. However, the investor panic that led to Monday’s selloff is grounded in a plethora of short and long-term concerns that could cause headwinds for Facebook.

Ryan digs into the key facts to determine exactly what investors need to keep their eyes on heading forward. Make sure to check out the show to hear more!
