U.S. stocks surged in morning trading Thursday as representatives from the United States and China confirmed that the two nations would resume trade talks later this month. While White House economic advisor Larry Kudlow said President Trump remains committed to getting a “good deal,” investors were happy to see at least some progress made to resolve the so-called trade war.

Meanwhile, Wall Street was excited to see robust results from Walmart (WMT - Free Report) , which topped estimates on the top and bottom line. Walmart’s strong quarter was buoyed by growth in its e-commerce division, and the retail behemoth was confident enough to issue a positive forward-looking outlook.

Also making headlines in the e-commerce world was Chinese giant JD.com (JD - Free Report) . The online retail company once again reported strong revenue growth, but its quarterly loss widened as it was forced to invest more to compete with rivals like Alibaba (BABA - Free Report) .

Wall Street was also talking about struggling cybersecurity company Symantec , which was a major mover in morning trading after an activist hedge fund revealed a large position in the firm.

On the first half of today’s show, Ryan discusses all of these news stories, providing investors with the key facts they need to know and giving his unique perspective on the headlines.

On the second half of the show, the hosts gets investors ready for Nvidia’s (NVDA - Free Report) report this afternoon. Nvidia shares dipped in morning trading Thursday, suggesting Wall Street is concerned the company might not be able to live up to sky-high expectations.

But what exactly are those expectations? Which segments should investors be focused on when Nvidia reports this afternoon? Did the stock’s morning selloff create a buying opportunity just a few hours before the earnings announcement?

Ryan answer these questions by digging into estimates, revision trends, and valuation history. Later, he fields questions from the audience about beginning investing, long-term investing strategy, and the cyclical nature of semiconductor stocks.
