Corning to Exhibit Gorilla Glass 6 at Touch Taiwan 2018

Read MoreHide Full Article

Corning Incorporated (GLW - Free Report) recently announced that it will display technologies from its advanced glass portfolio at Touch Taiwan 2018 — the only UFI-certified touch panel and optical film exhibition in the world. The company will showcase its most durable cover glass to date, Corning Gorilla Glass 6.

The next generation of Gorilla Glass, Gorilla Glass 6 is designed to survive multiple drops from greater heights compared to its predecessor, Gorilla Glass 5. Notably, in laboratory testing, Gorilla Glass 6 successfully endured 15 drops from a height of one meter on rough surfaces. This is twice the endurance capability of Gorilla Glass 5, released couple of years ago. Currently, 45 leading brands are using Gorilla Glass 6 in more than 6 billion consumer devices. Also, the Gorilla Glass 6 has been developed to meet the modern design requirements of a device that uses glass on both the front and the back side.

In addition, the company will showcase products such as Corning Gorilla Glass for Automotive Interiors, Corning EAGLE XG Slim Glass substrates, Corning Lotus NXT Glass, Corning Precision Glass Solutions and Corning Laser Technologies, among others at the exhibition.

Corning is a leader in the display, mobile consumer electronics and automotive markets, which positions it well to deliver advanced technical glass solutions to auto glass customers. The company is benefiting from strength in its Optical Communications, Environmental Technologies and Life Sciences business lines. Solid demand for Gorilla Glass products and fiber optics products remain key catalyst. The company’s Iris glass also presents significant growth opportunity. We believe that the product portfolio strength along with the expanding market bodes well for Corning in the long term.

In the past three months, this Zacks Rank #3 (Hold) stock has gained 25.7% compared with the industry growth of 14.6%.

However, the company faces price erosion of 1-2% per quarter in the Display business, which remains a drag on margins despite an improving demand situation. Also, given the ongoing trade war between the United States and China, the company is likely to face challenges to build a significant position in China in the prevailing economic and political environment.
