Read MoreHide Full Article

KBR, Inc. (KBR - Free Report) has secured several renowned contracts for the government services business, KBRwyle, over the past few months. Recently, KBRwyle received a $48 million indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (“IDIQ”) contract from NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (“GSFC”).

Per the deal, KBRwyle will construct, install and commission the next generation Space Geodesy (“SG”) Satellite Laser Ranging (“SLR”) ground systems. It will deliver up to six SLR systems and also provide other ancillary services.

The SLR system will be incorporated in the new NASA Space Geodetic Network (“NSGN”) and provide high-quality millimeter data for the International Terrestrial Reference Frame (“ITRF”), as well as enable scientists to assign coordinates to points and objects. The ITRF is a world spatial reference system that virtually observes Earth, helps in spacecraft tracking and navigation, and is crucial for other georeferenced data.

KBRwyle will support NASA's earth science missions and modernize geodesy. KBRwyle is enriched with advanced SLR capabilities for more than 35 years and has been providing its services to NASA, the U.S. Air Force and NOAA. It has provided full life cycle satellite operations support to more than 700 spacecrafts since 1958.

Meanwhile, KBR has acquired Stinger Ghaffarian Technologies Inc. ("SGT") and Aspire Defence under the Government Services business. The segment accounts for more than 68% of its total revenues. The segment revenues grew 46% in the first six months of 2018, primarily driven by strong organic growth, accretive revenues from Aspire Defence program and SGT. The company remains optimistic about the prospects of both the buyouts, mainly on account of increased government spending across space and defense.

Moreover, revenues from this project are expected to be booked into the backlog of unfilled orders for the Government Services business. In fact, KBR’s backlog level of $13.5 billion, as of Jun 30, 2018, highlights its underlying strength. About 80-85% of the backlog represents work under the Government Services segment.

Furthermore, KBR, which shares space in the Zacks Engineering - R and D Services industry with Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. , Fluor Corporation (FLR - Free Report) and Quanta Services, Inc. (PWR - Free Report) , expects growth across all its key markets in the United States, U.K. and Australia.
