Hartford Funds, a segment of The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc. (HIG), had total assets of around $121.3 billion under management (as of Jun 30, 2019). The company claims to manage at least 50 mutual funds across a wide range of styles and asset classes. Hartford Financial Services was founded in 1810 and is a well-recognized insurer in the United States.

Hartford Funds focuses on meeting and even exceeding “traditional industry benchmarks” through “human-centric investing.” The company believes that human-centric investing can help in creating solutions, products and advisor tools, which help in strengthening the bottom line and improving advisor-client relationships.

The Hartford Strategic Income Fund C (HSNSX - Free Report) aims for current income and total return over a long period of time. The fund mostly invests in domestic and foreign debt securities that the sub-adviser evaluates as striking from a yield perspective. The fund usually invests in non-investment grade debt securities, highly rated securities and foreign securities etc. HSNSX has returned 9.4% on a year-to-date basis.

Campe Goodman is one of the fund managers of HSNSX since 2012.

Hartford MidCap Growth HLS Fund Class IB  aims for long-term capital growth. The fund invests the majority of its assets in common stocks of medium-capitalization companies. The fund also invests a small portion of its assets in foreign issuers and non-dollar securities. HMCVX has returned 28.2% on a year-to-date basis.

Hartford Global Growth HLS Fund Class IA  aims for capital appreciation. The fund mostly invests in a diversified group of common stocks that span across companies, countries and industries. The fund invests the majority of its assets in companies with good potential for growth, and a small part of its assets in companies that conduct their businesses in emerging markets. HIALXhas returned 22.3% on a year-to-date basis.

HIALX has an expense ratio of 0.80% compared with the category average of 1.10%.
