Lockheed to Help Analyze Data

Read MoreHide Full Article

Lockheed Martin Corporation (LMT - Free Report) said it has received a $13 million two-year contract from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to develop an automated system for intelligence analysts.

Lockheed Martin's Advanced Technology Laboratories (ATL) will build InsightOS, an Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) operating system that will be the integrating framework for the Insight system. The new automated system is designed to help analysts process and integrate battlefield information faster and more accurately than is possible today.

Advanced Technology Laboratories will also create and support a sophisticated computing environment to host Insight as well as build a searchable data archive to capture all source data and fused products. Lockheed’s ATL has teamed with Autonomous Systems, a unit of Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control; Object Video; and Georgia Tech Research Institute to manufacture the new intelligence system.

Lockheed said that analysts go through volumes of disparate ISR data from sea, air, and land assets to produce an integrated view of critical information for the warfighter. It is difficult for analysts to easily share and integrate that data.

The creation of the new InsightOS will enable automated combining of sensor and intelligence data from multiple assets, dynamically re-tasking assets as necessary, and incorporating analysts into the process via advanced Human-Computer Interaction tools. As a result, the fidelity and speed of battlefield analyses will improve, increasing mission success and warfighter safety.

Based in Bethesda, Maryland, Lockheed Martin is a global security company that is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services.

Lockheed currently retains a Zacks #3 Rank (short term Hold). The company primarily competes with Northrop Grumman Corporation (NOC - Free Report) and The Boeing Co. (BA - Free Report) , both holding a Zacks # 3 Rank (short-term Hold).
