•    Second largest U.S. mobile service provider, AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) reported second quarter 2012 adjusted earnings of $0.66 a share, beating the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $0.63

•    Shares of Cisco Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CSCO) slumped 5.9% after VMware, Inc. (NYSE:VMW) announced that it will acquire Nicira Inc, a software-defined networking company

•    An announcement by DeVry Inc. (NYSE:DV) that it would lay off 570 employees, combined with flagging enrollment and a lower-than-estimated profit projection dragged the company’s shares 24.5% lower

•    Texas Instruments Incorporated’s (NASDAQ:TXN) shares dropped 0.9% after it provided third quarter revenue guidance of $3.21 billion and $3.47 billion, lower than the estimated $3.54 billion and projected quarterly earnings of $0.34 to $0.42 a share, lower than the earlier estimate of $0.48
