Atlantica Yield (ABY) Posts Narrower-than-Expected Q1 Loss

Atlantica Yield PLC reported first-quarter 2017 adjusted loss of 12 cents per share, narrower than the Zacks Consensus Estimate of a loss of 19 cents by 38.8%. The quarterly figure was also narrower than the year-ago quarter’s loss of 26 cents per share.

Total Revenue

Total revenue in the first quarter came in at $198.1 million, almost 4% lower year over year. It was also lower than the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $208 million missing the estimate by 4.8%.

The decrease was due to, negative currency translation and lower production at Kaxu, a solar plant in South Africa which experienced technical problems at the end of 2016.

Operational Highlights

Total operating expenses were $136.4 million in the reported quarter, reflecting a decrease of nearly 6.4% from $145.8 million in the year-ago period.

Operating income was $76.7 million, up 1.7% from $75.4 million in the year-ago quarter.

Financial Update

Cash and cash equivalents were $589.4 million as of Mar 31, 2017, lower than $ 594.8 million as of Dec 31, 2016.

Long-term corporate debt (including Long-term project debt) was at $5,732.1 million as of Mar 31, 2017, higher than $5,005.5 million as of Dec 31, 2016.

Cash used in operating activities during first quarter was $86.4 million, compared with $84.5 million used in the year-ago comparable period.
