Inside the Headlines

FLIR Systems’ revenues declined 6.4% year over year to $434.9 million. The top line also missed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $446.2 million by 2.5%. Disappointing sales performance by the Commercial segment led to the overall top line deceleration.

Organic revenues increased 3.1% from the prior year quarter number, excluding revenues from acquisitions and the previously disclosed divested security businesses.

Segment-wise, revenues at the Industrial segment increased 3.6% year over year to $177.2 million. The improvement was primarily driven by increased sales of automotive, unmanned aerial systems (UAS) and optical gas imaging products. At the Government and Defense segment, revenues totaled $172 million, up 1.3% on a year-over-year basis. The uptick can be attributed to increased deliveries of gimbaled and UAS systems.

However, the Commercial segments’ revenues plunged 30.8% to $85.8 million from the year-ago period.

Adjusted operating income came in at $106 million compared with $101.1 million in the prior-year quarter, reflecting a growth of 4.8%. The company’s operating expenses decreased 1.7% year over year to $133.5 million.
