TASER International Inc. disclosed that its subsidiary, Axon Public Safety UK, has won an order for 1,600 Axon Body 2 cameras from West Midlands Police.
The order also includes a multi-year subscription to EVIDENCE.com, its cloud-based digital evidence management platform. The company received and shipped the order in the second quarter of 2016.
Axon cameras were chosen by West Midlands Police after executing trials on two body camera solutions during a 12-month period. Axon was given preference due to its smooth incorporation and capability to ensure safety of digital evidence safely from capture to presentation in the courtroom.
Officers will also get access to the Axon Capture and Axon View mobile applications, which will help capture audio evidence as well as stream live videos in the field. These mobile apps not only solidify the Axon solution but are also a perfect fit for West Midlands Police's five-year transformation program.
According to Matt Spencer, Managing Director of Axon Public Safety UK, "In just the last 6 months, several of the largest forces in the UK, the Met, GMP and West Midlands, have made long term investments in body-worn video and associated Digital Evidence Management solutions." He added that forces now have a better understanding of the various ways of capturing digital evidence and securely processing the same so as to uphold the truth and protect victims of crime.
Introduced in Oct 2015, Axon Body 2 is part of the growing Axon platform that connects cloud, mobile and wearable technologies. This gives police agencies a distinct transparency.
