Tesla Hosts Official Unveiling Event for Model X in China
Read MoreHide Full Article
Tesla Motors, Inc. (TSLA - Free Report) held the official unveiling of Model X in China last week, nearly five months after it started taking orders for the car in the nation. The event, which was reportedly attended by 400 people, took place in China’s capital, Beijing.
China is the electric carmaker’s largest market outside the U.S. Tesla will start delivering Model X in China from July. We note that the world’s largest automobile market is the first Asian country to get the vehicle.
Tesla is also expected to start deliveries of Model X in some countries in Europe this month. In Sep 2015, the company had started deliveries of Model X in the U.S.
Tesla was facing some parts’ shortage, which resulted in low production of Model X in the first two months of 2016. The automaker delivered 2,400 Model X vehicles in the first quarter of the year.
However, production improved significantly to 750 Model X per week by the end of March. This will aid deliveries in the second quarter. The automaker is targeting 80,000–90,000 Model S and Model X vehicle deliveries in 2016, including 17,000 in the second quarter.
In April, Tesla announced a voluntary recall of all Model X vehicles produced before Mar 26, 2016. The recall was announced as internal testing by the electric carmaker revealed that the third-row seats can fold forward or unlatch during a crash due to a defective recliner hinge.
Tesla currently carries a Zacks Rank #4 (Sell). Some better-ranked automobile stocks include Lear Corp. (LEA - Free Report) , Superior Industries International, Inc. (SUP - Free Report) and Oshkosh Corporation (OSK - Free Report) . All the three stocks sport a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy).
