Trimble & China's CSCEC Tie Up for Mixed Reality in AEC
Read MoreHide Full Article
Trimble Navigation Limited (TRMB - Free Report) and CSCEC No. 1 Building Group Corporation Limited (CSCEC Group 1), a leading Chinese building contractor engaged in engineering and construction projects have collaborated for the application of mixed-reality technology in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) space. With this partnership, CSCEC Group 1 becomes the first organization in China to make use of Microsoft’s (MSFT - Free Report) HoloLens and Trimble Mixed-Reality solutions.
Mixed reality is a type of environment where real and virtual worlds merge together, facilitating the interaction between physical and virtually simulated objects in real-time. For example, a virtual ball placed under a table would remain out of sight unless the person bends down to take a look at it.
Applications of Mixed Reality in AEC
Holistic Improvement:Trimble’s new generation of mixed-reality tools when integrated with HoloLens will improve the quality, collaboration and efficiency of the design, construction and operation of buildings and structures.
3D Advantage: The HoloLens device will facilitate interaction with 3D models, going beyond the confines of a two dimensional computer screen. This enables the stakeholders in construction projects to visualize, collaborate, share ideas and manage change.
Identification of Faulty Designs: The design teams can now explore the yet-to-be built/operated aspects of a building by reviewing and interacting with its 3D models.
3D-Based Remote Collaboration: The stakeholders of the project can share ideas with the help of 3D-based remote collaboration. This will improve communication and provide a natural and innovative way to deal with complex data.
Our Take
In this regard, we note that just last month, Trimble and AECOM (ACM - Free Report) had announced that they were teaming up to use HoloLens technology in the AEC space for the first time.
Given the fact that the scope of mixed reality technology is huge, we expect more global construction players to jump on the bandwagon.
Zacks Rank
At present, Trimble has a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).
A better-ranked stock in the broader technology space is VOXX International Corp. (VOXX - Free Report) , carrying a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).
