(GNC - Free Report) is a leading global specialty retailer of health, wellness and performance products, including vitamins, minerals and herbal supplement products ("VMHS"), sports nutrition products and diet products. The company has a worldwide network of more than 8,900 locations.
Currently, GNC Holdings has a Zacks Rank #4 (Sell) but that could change following its promising first quarter 2016 earnings report which has just released. We have highlighted some of the key details from the just-released announcement below:
Earnings: The current Zacks Consensus Estimate is pegged at 76 cents per share. GNC Holdings’ adjusted earnings per share of 79 cents beat this estimate by 4%.
Sales: GNC Holdings posted sales of $673.2 million and surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate for revenues of $673 million.
Key Stats: Domestic franchise revenue decreased $1.9 million to $86.5 million in the current quarter compared with $88.4 million in the prior year quarter. Revenues from manufacturing/wholesale segment (excluding intersegment revenue) increased 5.3%, to $59.2 million compared with $56.2 million in the prior year quarter.
Major Factors: Domestic same store sales declined due to continued challenges in the vitamin and food/drink categories. Notably, operating income as a percentage of segment revenue decreased due to lower intersegment sales, which resulted in unfavorable manufacturing variances contributed to lower margins.
The Company also announced the appointment of Robert F. Moran as Interim Chief Executive Officer.
Stock Price: Following the earnings release, share prices did not show any movement in the pre-market trading session.
