Apple (AAPL) to Weed out Unwanted Apps from App Store

Read MoreHide Full Article
Spring cleaning may not be round the corner yet, but it seems Apple Inc. (AAPL - Free Report) is steadfast on doing some cleaning up this season. In a bid to enhance the user experience on its App Store, the tech juggernaut is sending out e-mails to the app developers cautioning them of the scrutiny process for unwanted apps that is about to start on the platform.

Per the e-mails, if an app is found to be outdated, not functioning as it should be or breaching review guidelines in any manner, it will no longer be featured on the App Store. Additionally, the company strives to optimize search options by limiting app names to a maximum of 50 characters on App Store.

The scrutiny process will begin from Sep 7, 2016.

The App Story So Far

Apple launched the App Store in 2008 to offer iPhone and iPad users a plethora of apps to choose from. As of June this year, Apple reported 2 million apps on its App Store for the iOS platform that have been downloaded 130 billion times.

However, there are several apps that were never downloaded or do not function at all. Additionally, millions of apps were never updated by their respective developers as a result of which these are incompatible with the current iOS.

It remains to be seen whether App Store will witness a drastic decline in the number of apps due to the latest revisions.

Apple’s New iPhone

We note that, the review process on the App Store commences on the day the company has scheduled the launch of its much-awaited iPhone 7, which is rumored to feature usability while wearing gloves and be able to spit out water out of the speakers. Additionally, Apple is expected to shed some light on the launch of its iOS 10 on the same day.
