Google Enhances Search, Unveils 'Shop the Runway' Program
Read MoreHide Full Article
One of the key factors believed to be behind Alphabet Inc.’s (GOOGL - Free Report) prolonged search market leadership position is that it has never allowed its search engine to look old.
Now, the company has discovered a way of pulling in ad revenues, leveraging apparel and home décor based search results. Yesterday, Google launched a new feature called Shop the Look.
Search and Shop
When users search for a fashion or home décor category, they will see an image that matches the search description. Tapping the image will take them to a gallery where they can explore relevant products and shop using a link.
The featured images are sourced from Google partners like LIKEtoKNOW.it., Curalate, and Polyvore who in turn source these images from brands, retailers, bloggers and publishers.
Continuous Innovation
Google’s new feature is set to benefit buyers, sellers and the public at large. The move underscores Google’s continuous focus on innovation and its efforts to launch products and services for multiple industries.
Google’s ability to innovate has translated into strong growth for the company. However, it refuses to rest on its past laurels and continues to adapt to changing market trends. It has taken the mobile market transition in its stride.
Although the desktop was the most popular computing device in the past, mobiles are now equally important, if not more. This is because there is a growing tendency among users to look for information as and when the need arises and hence the demand for mobile devices.
The company is helping the process with a change in its algorithm to make the search more mobile friendly, product listings, Google Now, Google Adwords and the Chrome browser. Alphabet’s opportunity lies in consumers and enterprises choosing mobile over desktops and the billions of new users entering the market, especially in the emerging regions.
Zacks Rank and Stocks to Consider
Currently, Alphabet has a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). Some better-ranked stocks in the broader technology sector include Stamps.com Inc. , Facebook, Inc. and LinkedIn Corporation , each sporting a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy).
