Google Sends Oct 4 Event Invites, May Launch Pixel Phones
Read MoreHide Full Article
Alphabet Inc. (GOOGL - Free Report) will reportedly take the wraps off a number of products at a still unnamed event to be held on Oct 4 on San Francisco.
The company’s style of inviting hints at a smartphone and voice assistant launch. The invitation text consists of a phrase "Ok Google, add to calendar," that possibly refers to Google’s voice assistant.
There’s also a YouTube clip that shows a task bar transforming to a smartphone outline and accompanied by the hashtag #madebygoogle.
The Probable Lineup
Among the most rumored products are two smartphones to be reportedly sold under Google’s new Pixel brand. According to prior reports, the 5.0- inch device codenamed Sailfish will be named Google Pixel and the 5.5- inch device codenamed Marlin will be known as Google Pixel XL.
Both are rumored to be manufactured by HTC and run on the latest Android 7.0 Nougat. We note that last month, Google updated its Nexus devices with Nougat.
The company may also release Google Home, a personal digital assistance device that will connect to other devices and customize or control them according to user preferences. The company pitches it against Amazon.com, Inc.’s (AMZN - Free Report) Echo.
Alphabet recently moved the entire platform team of its smart home division Nest Labs to Google to streamline its Google Home efforts.
There are plenty of other products yet to be released. The Android-powered VR platform Daydream is slated to release this fall. The company may also release a Chromecast HDMI stick that supports 4K videos and the messaging app “Allo”.
Android N that later became Android Nougat, Google Home, Daydream and Allo were among the new apps, devices and platforms that Google had announced at its I/O developer conference in May.
We note that Google has tried to raise the suspense around its upcoming fall event. There are high chances that the company will come up with a big launch and catch its competitors off guard.
