Read MoreHide Full Article
Alaska Air Group’s (ALK - Free Report) wholly owned subsidiary, Alaska Airlines, announced the launch of its maiden non-stop flight between San Diego and Newark, NJ.
Details of New Flight
The flight will be operated on the company’s fuel efficient Boeing 737 aircraft. The flight will take off daily at 9.55 a.m. from San Diego and at 7 p.m. from Newark. Passengers will get benefits, such as free entertainment, that they can access on their own devices, in addition to charging facilities.
The new flight marks the third East Coast destination, besides Boston and Orlando, to be connected with San Diego by the airline. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) had approved the company’s request, earlier this year, to introduce four additional daily flights to Newark.
With increasing competition from peers, such as JetBlue Airways Co. (JBLU - Free Report) and Southwest Airlines Co. (LUV - Free Report) , the company has been putting in efforts to expand its network. Earlier this month, the airline launched new flights between Portland and Newark.
Moreover, the company also announced a new flight between Newark and San Jose in addition to a new daily flight between Newark and Seattle. Both San Jose and Seattle flights are slated to be launched in spring 2017. The company will also introduce new service between San Diego and Baltimore in March next year.
Alaska Airlines carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). The company is in the process of acquiring Virgin America Inc. . The deal was announced in April this year and is expected to be completed shortly. You can see the complete list of today’s Zacks #1 Rank (Strong Buy) stocks here.
