DeVry's (DV) AUC Extends Agreement with Bronx-Lebanon

American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC), part of DeVry Education Group (DV - Free Report) , signed a 10-year affiliation deal with Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center or Bronx-Lebanon that will help AUC medical students complete clinical training at the hospital.

Bronx-Lebanon is the leading voluntary not-for-profit healthcare system that operates in the South and Central Bronx areas of New York. The latest agreement will extend the 6-year partnership between the bodies, thereby enabling 48 AUC students each year complete 48 weeks of core clinical rotations with Bronx-Lebanon’s departments of family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, general surgery, obstetrics/gynecology and psychiatry.

Additionally, 52 elective rotations will be offered every year of the agreement. Under the management of Bronx-Lebanon physicians and residents, AUC students will take patient histories, conduct physical examinations, present cases and assist with medical procedures.

Meanwhile, AUC is entitled to provide financial and technical support for the development of an onsite medical simulation center. The center will have six exam bays, adult and adolescent simulation rooms, and a learning facility. All these facilities will be available to rotating medical students.

It is to be noted that DeVry’s Medical and Healthcare segment, constituted 52.6% of total revenue in the first quarter of fiscal 2017, is the largest segment under the company. DeVry’s health care and international institutions have shown significant improvement in revenues and profitability throughout fiscal 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016. The trend continued in first-quarter fiscal 2017 as well.

The company expects the Medical and Healthcare segment to contribute about $1.5 billion to revenues in 2020.

IL-based DeVry gained more than 71% over the past six months compared to 14.5% growth of the Zacks categorized Schools industry. Even, DeVry’s Return on Equity (ROE) ratio is 9.56% compared to the industry average of 8.15%. This indicates that the company reinvests more efficiently as compared to the industry.
