FLIR Systems Introduces OGI Camera for Oil & Gas Sector
Read MoreHide Full Article
Premium thermal image maker, FLIR Systems, Inc. , recently introduced an optical gas imaging (“OGI”) camera, FLIR GFx320, for the oil and gas industry. This is the company’s sixth major launch, preceded by the introduction of five new thermal imaging cameras at the consumer electronics and technology tradeshow, CES 2017, last week.
Shares of the company have had a decent run over the past six months, returning 9.7% compared to the Zacks categorized Electronics-Military Systems industry average of 5.1%, over the same time frame. Increased adoption of thermal imaging in a broad spectrum of applications, ranging from military to personal hand-held cameras and smartphones, continue to fuel growth in this market.
Ideal for use in harsh atmospheric conditions, the FLIR GFx320 can seamlessly detect and visualize invisible hydrocarbon gas emissions, ranging from methane to common volatile organic compounds, rampant in oil and natural gas facilities. Further, this camera can survey potentially dangerous work zones from afar, thus enhancing the safety of workers. It will also enable users to achieve optimal thermal contrast between the gas compound and the background scene.
FLIR GFx320 has earned certification from the International Electrotechnical Commission as intrinsically safe and explosion-protected equipment . It also meets the sensitivity standards of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) OOOOa methane rule. FLIR remains optimistic that stringent methane regulations across the globe necessitate oil and gas operators devise a safe way to detect potentially hazardous gas emissions. GFx320 has been designed to take care of environment as well as human safety.
FLIR Systems’ core strength of providing reliable and effective imaging & threat-detection technologies is likely to bolster its growth. Moreover, cost-effective and easy deployment features of these cameras, along with consistent price slashes, have been driving growth. Going forward, we expect steady market traction of these products to help this Zacks Rank #3 (Buy) company bolster revenue growth.
