Amazon Shares Hit $1,000, Alphabet Inches Closer

Read MoreHide Full Article

Sound the alarms! Amazon (AMZN - Free Report) finally touched $1,000! Shares of the internet behemoth marched higher in early Tuesday morning trading, reaching a new high and crossing over the monumental $1,000 threshold for the first time.

Amazon shares quickly lurched back down below $1,000, but nevertheless, the celebration is on. Investors have been eyeing the quadruple digits for months as the e-commerce king has continued to steadily climb. Heading into today, AMZN was up nearly 33% year-to-date.

The attention will now turn to Alphabet Inc. (GOOGL - Free Report) , another internet conglomerate set to hit $1,000 soon. Shares of Alphabet—the company formerly known as Google—hit an intraday of $997.62 around the same time that Amazon hit its historic $1,001.20 peak this morning.

Despite what some might call uncertainty in Washington, this strong bull market rages on, and investors seem keen to drive share prices of our large cap tech giants even higher. Of course, these are uncharted territories for both Amazon and Alphabet, so these stocks could meet some resistance at the $1,000 level, but the fundamental picture for both companies remains solid.

As these stocks look to find their home above $1,000, their respective businesses seem to be at exciting new points.

Amazon has established itself as a major cloud services player, and Jeff Bezos and company look willing to double down on their media investments in an effort to dominate the entertainment world.

On the other hand, Alphabet appears more efficient than ever. Years of research and development in the emerging markets of artificial intelligence, fiber networks, and self-driving vehicles could also provide new growth opportunities in the coming years.

And the best part? When Amazon and Alphabet win, we win. As consumers, their products can change our lives. As investors, their success can inflate our portfolios. It’s really a win-win all around.

So cheers to $1,000, and may both companies find good luck on the road to $2,000!
