Read MoreHide Full Article

Honda Motor Company (HMC - Free Report) has announced an introductory lease price for the soon-to-be launched 2017 Honda Clarity Electric sedan. The lease price on offer is $269 per month (plus taxes) for 36 months.

The terms of lease include an allowance of 20,000 miles per year and 24X7 roadside assistance. It also has a built-in federal tax credit and requires $1,730 of down payment, plus the first month’s lease payment at signing (not including tax, registration or official fees).

Good news for Californian customers, who are entitled to the state’s Clean Vehicle Rebate of $2,500.

Honda Clarity Electric is a five passenger, zero-emissions electric car and will be available from Aug 2017, only through selected dealers in California and Oregon.

The Clarity Electric sedan consists of a 161-horsepower (120-kilowatt) electric motor to produce 221 lb.-ft of torque and drawing power from a 25.5-kWh battery pack. It takes over three hours to fully charge the sedan at 240 volts, when using DC fast charging connector with the SAE Combined Charging System.

The vehicle has the capability to achieve an 80% charge in just 30 minutes. The model has an EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) range rating of 89 miles on a full charge and an EPA fuel economy rating of 126/103/114 MPGe (city/highway/combined).

The Clarity Electric and Clarity Fuel Cell have been launched in Dec 2016, whereas the Clarity Plug-in Hybrid is arriving later in 2017. This makes “Clarity” the first ever vehicle series offering customers, an array of electrified vehicle choices, equipped with a five-passenger sedan.

The “Clarity” series will contribute almost two-third of Honda’s global automobile sales target from electrified vehicles by 2030.

Each “Clarity” variant has a low, wide aerodynamic body with unique design elements, including the special own hero color and is differentiated front styling, headlights, tail lamps and a non-compromised trunk space. It also includes Honda’s sensing standard and the 18-inch alloy wheel designs, combined with elegant and advanced exterior styling.

The series has three different powertrains and luxury packaging. This shared "3-in-1"platform strategy will enable Honda to respond to infrastructure and market developments, provide nationwide customers with an ultra-low carbon vehicle that meets their lifestyle needs and would also drive itself toward higher volume sales of advanced powertrain products to reduce CO2 emissions.

Honda will benefit from the planned launch of fuel cell vehicles (“FCVs”). The company started the lease sales of Clarity Fuel Cell in Japan in Mar 2016. It will be introduced in the European markets soon.

Additionally, Honda is collaborating with General Motors to develop FCVs. The company aims at selling 5,000 FCVs over the next five years in Japan, the U.S. and Europe.
