Read MoreHide Full Article
BlackBerry Limited has signed a sales and distribution agreement with Tokyo Electron Device Limited ("TED"). Per the agreement, Japanese device manufacturers will have access to BlackBerry’s QNX Software Development Platform (SDP) 7.0, the most advanced and secure embedded platform in the market.
TED provides semiconductor products and business solutions as well as supports customers’ system design.
The Deal
Partnership with BlackBerry QNX will allow TED to offer a more enhanced platform with capabilities featuring high performance, more reliability and better data security requirements. BlackBerry’s embedded technologies would enable companies to design and develop secure, mission-critical solutions, which in turn would accelerate the product time to market.
The QNX SDP 7.0 is a 64-bit OS (Operating System) built on the reliable QNX technology and provides better security and performance in medical devices, surgical robots, industrial controllers, high-speed trains, plus other safety and mission-critical applications.
Another Licensing Deal
BlackBerry has also inked its first Blackberry Secure licensing deal with Yangzhou New Telecom Science and Technology Company Ltd (NTD) on the same day. NTD is an electronics design firm, developing and manufacturing smartphones and IoT (Internet of Things) devices.
Per the multi-dimensional licensing deal, NTD will develop devices branded by OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturer), carriers and local smartphone brands. The devices will be marketed under the name, BlackBerry Secure, owing to the usage of the company’s security software. This partnership’s first product, an all-touch smartphone, is anticipated to ship early next year.
BlackBerry currently carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). Some better-ranked stocks in the Computer and Technology sector are Vodafone Group Plc (VOD - Free Report) , America Movil, S.A.B. de C.V. (AMX - Free Report) and TIM Participacoes S.A. . While Vodafone sports a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy), America Movil and TIM Participacoes carry a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy). You can see the complete list of today’s Zacks #1 Rank stocks here.
Shares of Vodafone, America Movil and TIM Participacoes have gained more than 8%, 23% and 10%, respectively, in the last six months.
Will You Make a Fortune on the Shift to Electric Cars?
Here's another stock idea to consider. Much like petroleum 150 years ago, lithium power may soon shake the world, creating millionaires and reshaping geo-politics. Soon electric vehicles (EVs) may be cheaper than gas guzzlers. Some are already reaching 265 miles on a single charge.
With battery prices plummeting and charging stations set to multiply, one company stands out as the #1 stock to buy according to Zacks research.
