NVIDIA's Tesla P4 to Power Google Cloud's AI Inference Tasks
Read MoreHide Full Article
NVIDIA Corporation’s (NVDA - Free Report) Tesla P4 graphics card will be integrated into Alphabet’s (GOOGL - Free Report) Google Cloud services for artificial intelligence (AI) inference tasks. The announcement was made by Google at the ongoing Google Cloud Next conference held in San Francisco.
NVIDIA introduced two GPUs (graphics processing unit) — the Tesla P4 and Tesla P40 in 2016.
Both the GPUs, based on NVIDIA’s next generation Pascal architecture, feature 8-bit (INT8) operations and provide 45 times faster response than older Intel (INTC - Free Report) CPUs and GPUs launched less than a year before that.
Strong Adoption of NVIDIA’s GPUs
NVIDIA’s GPUs are rapidly penetrating the gaming and datacenter markets, which is driving top-line growth. Better visualization, interactivity and speed are needed for a thrilling gaming experience, which NVIDIA successfully provides through its portfolio of Pascal architecture-based GPUs.
Moreover, NVIDIA GPUs are gaining rapid traction with the proliferation of AI. The increasing usage of AI tools in datacenter, automotive, healthcare and manufacturing industries is likely to drive demand for GPUs in the long haul.
Notably, NVIDIA is already a dominant player in the datacenter market. The company enjoys a first-mover advantage in the AI field and its expanding product portfolio is capable enough to leverage the growing adoption of AI in various industries.
NVIDIA announced a new version of its TensorRT software, a tool that dramatically accelerates AI inferencing, which is a process where a neural network learns how to recognize objects and patterns, at the GPU Technology Conference in San Jose held last year.
NVIDIA said that more than 1,200 companies are using this inference platform, including Amazon (AMZN - Free Report) , Microsoft, Facebook, Google, Alibaba, Baidu, Hi Vision and Tencent.
On the last conference call, management sounded optimistic regarding the rising traction in AI inference. Notably, shipments of inference GPU to cloud service provider more than doubled from the previous quarter. Moreover, the recent announcement by Google to choose Tesla P4 goes on to show the company’s increased inference capabilities.
We note that for the last two years, NVIDIA’s strategy of applying its GPUs in AI models has helped it expand its footprint in several fast-growing fields and aided its top line. It is expected to remain so going forward.
It could become the mother of all technological revolutions. Apple sold a mere 1 billion iPhones in 10 years but a new breakthrough is expected to generate more than 27 billion devices in just 3 years, creating a $1.7 trillion market.
Zacks has just released a Special Report that spotlights this fast-emerging phenomenon and 6 tickers for taking advantage of it. If you don't buy now, you may kick yourself in 2020.
