Amazon's HQ2 Will Reportedly Be Split Between Two Cities'
Amazon’s search for a second headquarters has been a nearly yearlong quest. The company has decided to split its HQ2 location between two cities: Long Island City, New York and Crystal City, Virginia according to people familiar with the matter.
Long Island City is part of the greater Queens borough of New York City. Crystal City is a suburb of Washington D.C. This plan will bring up to 50,000 jobs, split between the two cities.
238 cities, counties, and states submitted bids hoping to bring Amazon to their area. The company narrowed the list down to 20 finalists in January.
It was a surprise decision for the much-hyped search. But looking closer, the choices make sense.
There’s already considerable tech talent in each city, and CEO Jeff Bezos has homes in both New York and Washington.
