Why Muse is Winning the Agentic AI Race

Key Takeaways

  • The Agentic AI era has arrived.
  • Meta's "Muse" agent surpassed ChatGPT's historic launch trajectory.
  • Meta is positioned to dominate the agentic landscape.

Agentic AI Has Arrived

Roughly four years ago, OpenAI kicked off the artificial intelligence revolution with the launch of the “ChatGPT” large language model (LLM). ChatGPT quickly became mainstream, gaining millions of users in the first few days after launch, and ultimately becoming one of the fastest-growing consumer applications in history. Since then, Wall Street investors have gone on a feeding frenzy as earnings and sales growth for AI-related companies has soared, with AI leaders such as Advanced Micro Devices ((AMD - Free Report) ), Micron ((MU - Free Report) ), and Nebius ((NBIS - Free Report) ) delivering triple-digit returns over the past year.

Generative AI applications like ChatGPT and Alphabet’s ((GOOGL - Free Report) ) “Gemini” have soared in popularity. These generative AI models can answer almost any question and quickly create content from user prompts. Like the search engine wars of the late 1990s, the AI winners have likely not been crowned yet. Until Google launched in 1997, Yahoo!, AltaVista, and Lycos owned the search engine arena. However, Google gained an edge in the search engine wars by delivering a faster, cleaner, and more comprehensive search experience. Before Google, search engines were essentially cluttered online directories and digital phone books. Conversely, Google’s unique ranking and hyperlink system made internet search a completely different, more optimal experience.

Currently, the AI revolution is shifting from the generative wave to the Agentic phase. Instead of merely answering prompts, Agentic AI autonomously plans and executes multi-step workflows to achieve broader goals. You can think of generative AI as having the smartest person in the world at your fingertips to answer questions. While generative AI is undoubtedly revolutionary, Agentic AI takes the technology a step further. Generative AI is akin to having the smartest person in the world at your fingertips AND willing to complete tasks on your behalf, all at lightning-fast speed.

Muse: Meta’s Google Moment?

Over the past few months, AI product launches have been dizzying as tech companies look to cash in on the hype surrounding Wall Street’s hottest industry: artificial intelligence. In September alone, OpenAI expanded the “GPT-6” universe, Anthropic released “Claude Opus 5.5,” xAI launched “Grok 4.7,” and Google updated its family of applications. However, Meta Platform's ((META - Free Report) ) “Muse” launch is arguably the most significant application release thus far in the AI revolution. In fact, within just a handful of days, Muse jumped to #1 on the Apple ((AAPL - Free Report) ) App Store and Google Play. Meanwhile, according to Apptopia app analytics, Meta reached 1.1 million installs roughly 10 days after launch, surpassing ChatGPT’s 2022 launch. For context, before the Muse launch, ChatGPT was the fastest-growing consumer application in history.

Who Will Win the Agentic AI Wars?

Currently, three main players dominate the Agentic AI realm: Meta Platforms, OpenAI, and Anthropic. Tuesday, OpenAI launched Dots, an always-on AI agent inside ChatGPT. Meanwhile, Anthropic has emerged as a powerhouse in the Agentic AI space. Monday, news dropped that Anthropic’s revenue surged by 1,088% in 2025. Each of these agents can connect to thousands of apps, remember ongoing context, run scheduled tasks, and bring back results for review. Although each of these companies has garnered investor attention, has scorching-hot growth, and similar capabilities, Meta Platforms is likely to gain an edge. Here are three reasons why Meta is positioned to dominate the Agentic AI industry:

1.      Massive Distribution: In technology, distribution is paramount to success. Between WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, Threads, and Meta AI, Meta has a mind-boggling 3.60 billion active users. For context, Earth’s current population is approximately 8.3 billion.

2.      Invaluable Data: OpenAI and Anthropic must rely on general reasoning and software utility. Conversely, Meta leverages its understanding of user preferences from its family of apps to understand what users want before they act.

3.      Cost Undercutting: Currently, Anthropic and OpenAI charge fees for their agents. However, because Meta has a thriving, highly profitable legacy business (unlike Anthropic and OpenAI), can offer Muse for free. By offering Muse for free, Meta will rapidly scale its user base. Essentially, Meta is taking a page out of the Robinhood (HOOD) “freebee” playbook. In time, Meta will generate a profit by taking a small fee on transactions and payments.

Bottom Line

As the AI landscape transitions from generative AI to Agentic AI, the battle for platform dominance is just beginning. While heavyweights like OpenAI and Anthropic continue to push technological boundaries, Meta’s global reach, data, and pricing power give it an edge.
