Hewlett-Packard (HPQ - Free Report) has unveiled its latest software security application, HP Fortify Static Code Analyzer (SCA) 4.0, to help businesses identify software vulnerabilities at a faster rate. The application will be available from Sep 2013.
The application, the latest offering from H-P’s Fortify portfolio, helps its clients to mitigate their business risks, maintaining the specification required for compliance regulations and protects them against malicious application attacks.
The SCA 4.0 can not only speed up the process of code analysis but also improve the accuracy levels by approximately 20.0%. It can detect vulnerabilities in web, client and server applications as well as mobile applications, including those for Apple’s (AAPL - Free Report) iOS and Google’s Android operating systems.
H-P had acquired Fortify Software in 2010. The acquisition integrated Fortify’s expertise in static application security analysis with H-P’s application security analysis function, ultimately enhancing the level of immunity to end users’ security and application services.
H-P has been making an effort to gain traction in the software segment, which comprises cloud, security and big data solutions and services. In the last reported quarter, Software was the only segment that recorded year-over-year growth. Revenues from the segment were primarily aided by improved sales execution and solid license conversions.
Nonetheless, H-P is still reeling under pressure from the declining PC business and sluggish macroeconomic environment. The company has also hinted at muted revenue growth in 2014. Moreover, competition from other technology bellwethers such as International Business Machines (IBM - Free Report) and Salesforce makes it even more difficult for the company to gain market share in the cloud and security space.
However, H-P’s growing focus on new business segments, such as electronic medical records, cloud computing and the recently-added analytics will help the company grow in the ensuing quarters.
Currently, H-P has a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).
