Key Stats: American Airlines Group’s results in the quarter benefited from low fuel costs. This is because fuel costs account for a major chunk of an airline's operating expenses. During the quarter, the company returned more than $1.7 billion to its shareholders through the payment of $58 million in dividends and buyback of shares worth of $1.7 billion. Furthermore, the carrier also declared a dividend of $0.10 per share. The dividend will be paid on Aug 19, 2016, to the shareholders on Aug 5. We are impressed by the company’s efforts to reward shareholders through stock repurchases and dividend payments.
Stock Price: The year-over-year decline in earnings and revenues irked investors. Consequently, shares of the company were down in pre-market trading at the time of writing.
