Wireless Equipment Stock Earnings on Aug 4: MSI, SWIR & More
Read MoreHide Full Article
With 317 S&P 500 members reporting their quarterly numbers (as of Jul 29), we are past the mid-way of Q2 earnings. Although growth pace in the quarter seems to have improved, expectations for earnings growth is still negative. This indicates toward a fifth straight quarter of negative growth, emphasizing the fact that we are still in ‘Earnings Recession’.
As per the recent Earnings Preview, total S&P 500 earnings are expected to decline by 3.4% due to 0.4% lower revenues. The growth estimates of Q2 might not be the scraping end of the barrel as even Q3 estimates are leaning into the negative territory, adding to the woes. However, we anticipate positive earnings growth in the last quarter of the year which may scale even higher in 2017.
Focus on Wireless Equipment Industry
At present, the broadcast industry ranks 193 out of 265 industries as per the Zacks Industry Rank. This industry’s bottom of the pile position makes its outlook a negative one. Let us focus on 3 stocks of the wireless equipment segment that are due to release their earnings on Aug 4.
Motorola Solutions, Inc. (MSI - Free Report) is engaged in providing communication equipments, software and services. It focuses on providing public safety communications ranging from infrastructure to applications and devices. The company, scheduled to release its second-quarter 2016 results, has a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold) and Earnings ESP of 0.00%. This is because both Most Accurate estimate and the Zacks Consensus Estimate stand at 90 cents. According to our proven model, a company needs the right combination of two key ingredients – a positive Earnings ESP and a Zacks Rank #3 or better – to increase the odds of an earnings surprise. Thus, Motorola Solutions doesn’t conclusively show that it is likely to beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate this quarter. (Read more: Will Motorola Earnings Disappoint Investors in Q2?)
Sierra Wireless Inc. is a leading provider of wireless data communications products. The company has a combination of Zacks Rank #3 and an Earnings ESP of 0.00% for second-quarter 2016. Although Zacks Rank #3 increases the predictive power of ESP, we need a positive Earnings ESP to be confident of an earnings beat and hence Sierra Wireless doesn’t conclusively show that it is likely to beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate this quarter.
Ubiquiti Networks, Inc. is engaged in the business of designing, manufacturing and selling broadband wireless solutions globally. The company, slated to report fourth-quarter fiscal 2016 numbers, carries a Zacks Rank #3 and an Earnings ESP of 0.00%.
