Agilent Technologies, Inc. (A - Free Report) has decided to double its commercial manufacturing capacity for nucleic acid active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs).
The company announced on Tuesday the acquisition of 20 acres in Weld County, CO, for the construction of a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility.
According to Skip Thune, general manager of Agilent’s Nucleic Acids Solutions Division, the expansion is a part of the company’s continuous commitment toward meeting the ever-increasing needs of customers for oligonucleotides.
Oligonucleotides are synthesized ingredients used to treat different forms of cancer, muscular dystrophy, diabetes and other disorders.
Construction of the facility commences this fall and it is expected to generate about 150 to 200 permanent high-paying jobs once it begins operations.
The investment is expected to contribute significantly toward economic development of Weld County and Colorado as a whole.
Weld County’s Economic Development Board heartily welcomed the new endeavor and offered support to the company’s innovative work.
Agilents Nucleic Acid Base
Agilent’s diagnostics and genomics division takes care of its nucleic acid API business. The company’s oligonucleotide API manufacturing base is located at Boulder, CO in a facility that the company obtained as a part of its acquisition of SynPro Corp. in 2006. Since then, the facility has been expanded twice to improve its commercial production capacity.
